I'm sure that someone else has another name for this type of piecing, but I call it rag patch. The sizes and shapes of the pieces have no rhyme or reason or plan, and can be sewn together with seams or collaged or covered. In this case I used 1/4" strips sewn over the raw edges with a 4mm twin needle.

Embellishments include porcelain buttons, beads, antique nailheads, and sequins. The sequin appliqués are from a shop in Madrid, Spain, where they really know their sequins! (Think bullfighter costumes.) This detail is looking down on the right shoulder.
