For millennia, humans have created containers to hold their most intimate, sacred, and important possessions. The church has long housed the bones and possessions of the saints and holy persons in lavishly embellished reliquaries. In more modern times, shrines have been created to honor family and friends now departed. Some vessels are created to hold mementoes of significant events, souvenirs from travels to distant lands, or important ancestral documents. Students will have the opportunity to create one 2-D and one 3-D piece during the workshop, drawing on their own symbolism and choice of event to be honored.
