Larkin Jean Van Horn,
The Shattered Circles Gallery

I started this series in 2002, after completing the Mandala project. Unlike building a mandala, where you construct a circle, life was not coming together, it was coming apart. We just kept getting hit by one thing after another, and it was hard to keep a positive attitude. In the midst of a goodly pile of trauma, it occurred to me that rather than putting circles together, I would take them apart. And the “Shattered Circles” series was born. They started out fairly simply, and got more complex as time passed. As it turned out, they were rather like potato chips - you can't make just one. There are always the ‘what if’ and ‘maybe next time’ questions to be answered, and so it is no wonder that I have made over fifty of these now! And every time I think I am finished with this series, I seem to go back and make another one.
