So, there I was, happily quilting along, and I suddenly realized that there was something that had attached itself to the back of the quilt and was trailing along under the table. Turning the quilt over, I discovered a piece of hand-dyed silk organza that I must have picked up without realizing it. The texture of the quilting over the free floating organza was marvelous, and was the beginning of this series.
I took my quilting inspiration from the beaches, tidelines, and drifting detritus around my island home, and allowed the organza to wrinkle and crinkle as it would, with little control on my part. The beading gives focus to the quilting lines and gives the eye some guidance in it's wanderings over the surface. This is an incredibly freeing way to work, and I seem to keep going back to make just a couple more!
